Facts of IAWP
IAWP is a nonprofit professional association working to meet the needs of workforce professionals across the U.S. and internationally. IAWP, founded in 1913, stands for the International Association of Workforce Professionals. However, IAWP now strives to provide benefits to those involved in all aspects of workforce development and prefers to go by its well-known acronym. The mission of IAWP is to enhance, serve, and support those interested in workforce development programs. IAWP has more than 17,000 members worldwide (2002 statistics). IAWP provides benefits to its members such as education and training, legislative awareness and advocacy, recognition, and useful information. Some of the education and training benefits provided to members are the IAWP Annual Conference and Convention, the Professional Development Program, State Conferences, and local training provided at the district, chapter and subchapter levels. Workforce Professional is the official IAWP publication. The bi-monthly newsletter is included with international membership and paid subscriptions are available to non-members. IAWP is governed by an International Board of Directors, which is comprised of all international officers, the immediate past president, and one elected representative from each IAWP District. As of April 2002, there are 20 IAWP districts, 50 U.S. chapters, and 12 international chapters. Some areas also have subchapters. The IAWP Administrative Office, opened in 1965, is located in Frankfort, Ky. As of April 2002, a staff of three handles members services, publications, and daily operations of association business. Membership is available to anyone interested in advancing workforce development. |
