 Financial Report

A current financial report was not available for this meeting.  Steve noted that we have one candidate for the Treasurer position – Sylvia Carlson from the Seattle TeleCenter.

Steve has prepared a proposed budget for the 2007-08 program year.  He will e-mail it to everyone for review and we will approve at a conference call meeting in mid-September.

OLD BUSINESS

  • Elections.  There are candidates for two of the positions—Sylvia Carlson from the Seattle TeleCenter for Treasurer and PJ Hall from WorkSource Lewis County for Vice President.

Steve is confirming Sylvia’s interest and ability to participate in IAWP activities.  Upon confirmation, we will vote on this position at the conference call.

Heather Davis moved for unanimous election of PJ Hall as Vice President of the Washington State Chapter IAWP.  The motion was seconded by Lee Stevens and carried by voice vote.

There are currently no candidates for President-elect.  Names of suggested candidates can be forwarded to Steve Ruggles.

  • New Award Category.  Steve would like to establish a new award category to recognize the Subchapter of the Year.  Criteria for this award would include:

    • Number of educational events held
    • Number of attendees at those events
    • Number of Charity/Community/Goodwill events held
    • Membership % rate - # at end of period/# at start of time period
    • Number of Clarion articles from sub-chapter members
    • Number of newspaper articles published
    • Hosting the annual Statewide Conference cannot be considered as an event for this award

Steve Ruggles moved to establish the new award based on the criteria presented.  The motion was seconded by PJ Hall and carried by voice vote.

NEW BUSINESS

  • Generations Credit Union Proposal.  Generations Credit Union would like to survey its membership, but they do not have the staff or the funds it could cost to conduct a survey by a private entity.  Steve asked for input on a proposal from the State Chapter to Generations, to conduct and compile the survey and report to Generations.

After discussion, PJ Hall moved to authorize Steve to proceed with Generations Credit Union to conduct and compile the membership survey.  The motion was seconded by Heather Davis and carried by voice vote.

 Officer Reports

President.  Steve, along with Lee Stevens and Mary Henley, met with Commissioner Lee on August 14.  Karen encouraged Steve to meet with the Senior Leadership Team and Area Directors.  He will follow-up on both.

He presented his theme for the coming year – “Influence your Future.”

He has been working to identify committee chairs.  So far, he has a commitment from Lali Menchaca and Diana Smith to chair awards; Kathy Bilanko will chair chapter development; Lee Stevens and Carol MacCracken will chair education; PJ Hall will assume the chair of membership; Jim Wallace will be the retiree representative and Steve Cheek will chair veterans.

He has also been working to identify subchapter presidents/representatives to sit on the Executive Board.  There is some interest in AF Hardy.  There are funds in the subchapter, but so far he has not been able to find where the bank account is.

Lastly, Steve challenges each board member to write articles for the Clarion.  He further challenges each subchapter to have at least one brown bag/educational event each quarter.

Past President.  Lee Stevens is learning how to be a retiree!
